How to Localize a Meta Catalog for Other Countries

Short answer

How do I show local prices and languages in catalog ads?

Upload a country feed or a language feed to your catalog in Commerce Manager. These feeds override fields such as price, title and description for people in another country or language, matched to your main feed by content ID. Meta then shows the right version automatically in your ads and shop.

Selling the same products in several markets doesn’t mean building several catalogs. Your main feed holds products for your default country or language. Country and language feeds add the local versions on top: prices in other currencies, translated titles and descriptions, and links to local websites. Meta then picks the right version for each viewer, in ads and in shops.

How do country and language feeds work?

  • Products belong to your main feed for your default country or language.
  • A country or language feed overrides certain fields, such as price, title and description, for viewers elsewhere.
  • Each product must use the same content ID in both feeds, so it can be matched to its local data.
  • If your catalog has no localized data for a country, people there see your main feed data.

How do you upload a country or language feed?

  1. Create the feed with localized prices and other details, in XLSX, CSV, TSV, Google Sheets or XML (RSS/Atom).
  2. Go to Commerce Manager, select your catalog and open Data sources in the Catalog tab.
  3. Click + Add and select Country or language data.
  4. Select Upload file, then Country feed or Language feed.
  5. Choose File upload, Scheduled feed or Google Sheets.
  6. Name the feed and select Save feed and upload.

To check the result, open a product in the Products tab and pick a country, language or both from the dropdown menus. International coverage shows localized data for all countries and languages at once, which helps spot missing fields.

What if only some products have local data?

Ads and shops behave differently, Meta says:

Where Products without local data for a country
Ads and Instagram product tags May still show there, with your default data, so people can see mixed currencies or languages
Shops on Facebook and Instagram Are not shown in that country, to avoid mixed currencies or languages

Shops can only show one currency. If you mix currencies in your main feed instead of using a country feed, Meta may show only products in the most common currency and flag a mismatched currency error on the rest.

How do you hide or pause a product in one country?

  1. To stop selling it there, set its status to archived in that country feed.
  2. If it’s temporarily unavailable there, set its availability to out of stock in that country feed.
  3. Re-upload the feed, or let the next scheduled upload pick it up.

Out-of-stock products don’t appear in ads, and Meta notes the availability field isn’t available for every product type.

FAQ

What happens if I update my main feed but not the country feed?

Meta says the data in your most recent country and language feed is still delivered. When local prices or other localized details change, edit and re-upload the country or language feed as well as your main feed.

If I delete a product from my main feed, is its local data lost?

Not straight away. Meta keeps a deleted product’s localized data for up to 90 days, and reattaches it if you add the product back within that time. If you won’t add it again, delete it from your country or language feed too.

Do I need a separate setup for my shop?

No. Meta says that if you already use country and language feeds for Advantage+ catalog ads across countries and languages, your shop automatically shows each customer the right product information, just as your ads do.
